2012 Round1 Jan 4 Check-in

Well, not surprisingly, my Wednesday is super busy. I was able to meet some of my mid-week goals:

-  Translated 1022 words for WIP Five Minutes
-   1 pass review/editing for WIP Isaura chapter 1. Really happy about this, as I had done some other edits before and I think it's in top shape (I think found all typos and grammar mistakes).
- I did not forget to find something to be grateful each day, even if it was about the weather holding out nicely. Surely made my days better. Kind of hard to focus on annoyances when I feel grateful, even if it is for something small.

- Did not meet my exercise commitment. Completely failed as I was unable due to feeling somewhat sick--used all my energies for work/writing/editing. Better now and ready to start exercising tomorrow.
- Didn't have time today to check the other posts. I did read and comment on goals of some members, but haven't had time to read anyone's check-in yet. Probably won't have time until Friday evening.

Hope everyone else meet their goals for the first check-in.

2012 Round01 Goals

My Writing/Editing Goals:

- 2500 words in 5 days. I just have to follow Kait's "Test Mile" idea and I should be fine with this goal.
- 1000 words bonus (in case I have a little extra time--wishful thinking).
- 2 passes on 1 chapter (or 2 different chapters) per week of my WIP that needs to be edited. I usually do several passes when editing, starting from basic typo check to accurate translation check to eventually does anything sound awkward in a sentence check. Because my current projects are translations projects, my edits don't need rewrites (besides an awkward sentence rewrite).

ROW80 Community:

- Comment on at least 10 blog entries per week of other ROW80 participants to encourage/keep them honest with their goals :)
- Use twitter to interact with other ROW80 participants. I have an account (BrazilLit) but haven't used it in several months. Maybe it's time to revive it. It will give me other ways to interact with the ROW80 community.

Health Goals:

- Exercise 30-minutes 5 times per week. Doctor recommended, so I need to take it seriously. Hoping XBox Your Shape Fitness game (got it for Christmas) helps me stop cheating on exercise form (it nags in a very nice way when I don't do the exercise correctly and praises when I do it correctly).
- Remember 1 thing that made me "genuinely smile" everyday. Can't forget that under all the daily stress, I really have much more to be grateful for.

OK, now to start meeting my commitments. I am sure if I can consistently meet them, I will have something to show for the effort. Best luck to everyone in meeting their commitments too.

See you all around.

Joining the ROW80 writing challenge

For last 3 years I have tried to develop a steady-pace writing habit, but fail every time life gets in the way. And life always gets in the way. While surfing the web, I came across a link to ROW80. I've heard about NaNoWriMo and even checked it out, but never tried it as I know I can't afford to take a whole month to just work on a writing project while I ignore life completely. So when I saw ROW80 and the idea behind it, I thought, this is my kind of writing challenge. I can do this.

The reason is that writing (and translating--what I am concentrating on right now, then plan to get back to writing my own stories) is a hobby. Please don't gasp. I know most writers are working on becoming professional writers and that's a great (and really challenging) plan. I have a simpler plan. My plan is to enjoy the writing and editing process and make the product available on the web. However, I haven't really finished any project in the last 3 years. I find some time and then work steadily for 3 or 4 weeks until life overwhelms me. Maybe part of the problem is that I do it in a solitary mode because I haven't given thought beyond getting the book ready for someone to read.

This is where ROW80 got me excited. I had been planning on getting back to my stalled projects during the holidays. I organized my home office, and even got new software for my laptop (Scrivener--had a trial version for over 6 months on my laptop and when I used it I loved how it kept me organized, but it was time to get the license so I can use it without restrictions). So here I am. I hope this odd writer finds a place with the other enthusiastic writers who already participate in ROW80.

Since I didn't have a blog (really didn't want to maintain one), I created this blog just for ROW80. I also added some info about my WIP projects if anyone is curious about the translating projects I am working on.
